Choosing disc golf drivers often means balancing three different jobs: distance at slower arm speeds, a driver described for added understability and rollers, or a fairway disc for first-driver and line-shaping work. The HEAT pair adds a closer comparison: same mold, different plastic. The clearest approach is to match the stated use case first, then use price, plastic, and appearance details to break ties.
Quick take
The HEAT pair is the same-mold decision; AVENGER SS offers a separate distance-driver route; RHYTHM is the fairway-driver route. Start with intended use, then use plastic, pattern, and price to break ties.

Decision matrix
- Distance-driver role: Discraft Z HEAT, Discraft ESP HEAT, and Discraft Z AVENGER SS are all labeled Distance Driver.
- Fairway-driver role: Axiom FISSION RHYTHM is labeled Fairway Driver, making it the category change in this comparison.
- Shared HEAT values: Both HEAT versions state Speed 9, Glide 6, Turn -3, and Fade 1. Those shared numbers separate neither plastic format from the other.
- Other stated values: AVENGER SS lists Speed 10, Glide 5, Turn -3, and Fade 1. RHYTHM lists Speed 7, Glide 5.5, Turn -2, and Fade 1. Treat these as neutral model descriptors rather than a ranking.
- Use-case wording: HEAT is aimed at control, glide, and distance at slower arm speeds; AVENGER SS is framed as beginner-friendly with added understability and distance-roller potential; RHYTHM is described as a first driver for newer players and a line-shaping fairway for power arms.
Product notes
Discraft Z HEAT - pick your weight & color
The Discraft Z HEAT fits shoppers who want a smaller rim for easier grip alongside the HEAT model. It uses Z plastic and the Watermelon Pearl / Black color-and-stamp combination, giving it a clear identity within the HEAT pair. The smaller-rim detail is the main reason to choose it when hand feel matters, while the model's control, glide, and distance focus suit the stated slower-arm-speed use case. The limitation is visual flexibility: the disc color may vary slightly from the photo. If the exact pictured appearance is central, that caveat matters more than the model name.
Discraft ESP HEAT - pick your weight & color
The Discraft ESP HEAT suits a shopper who wants the HEAT mold with ESP plastic as the deciding attribute. The selected format uses the HE 24 Disc Color & Stamp Pattern, giving it a concrete appearance distinction from the Z HEAT. It remains a Distance Driver, so its role stays within the same broad category as the other Discraft drivers here. The limitation is format-specific: shoppers wanting Z plastic need the Z HEAT title instead. Choose this version when ESP plastic and the HE 24 pattern matter more than matching the lowest listed price.
Discraft Z AVENGER SS - pick your weight & color
The Discraft Z AVENGER SS earns consideration for its Z plastic and Purple / Silver Diamond Plate color-and-stamp combination. Those details make it a clear choice for someone who wants the AVENGER SS model rather than another HEAT title. The concrete limitation is weight selection: the stated range is 160 to 174. Shoppers specifically seeking ESP plastic will need a different title, since Z is the identified plastic here. The AVENGER SS also carries its own distance-driver identity, separate from the fairway-driver format represented by RHYTHM. Pick it when the model name, Z plastic, and selected pattern align.
Axiom FISSION RHYTHM - pick your weight and color
The Axiom FISSION RHYTHM is the distinct Fission-plastic choice, with an RF 2 disc-and-rim color pattern. Those are concrete reasons to select it when plastic and appearance matter. Its listed price is USD 21.95, which is $7.00 above the lowest entry in this comparison. That price gap is the clearest limitation for shoppers weighing the four choices. The title and use case also make it a format-specific alternative rather than a same-mold HEAT comparison. Choose it when the Fission format, RF 2 pattern, and fairway designation fit the intended use.
Final recommendation by use case
- For slower-arm distance positioning: choose the HEAT pair. Pick Discraft Z HEAT for Z plastic and its smaller-rim detail; pick Discraft ESP HEAT when ESP plastic and the HE 24 pattern are the priority.
- For a beginner-friendly driver with the stated added-understability and roller brief: choose Discraft Z AVENGER SS.
- For a fairway-driver, first-driver, or line-shaping use case: choose Axiom FISSION RHYTHM.
- For the lowest listed price: choose Discraft Z HEAT or Discraft Z AVENGER SS, each at USD 14.95.
