Choosing dive computers & instruments is less about finding one universal winner and more about matching the instrument to the information you actually want underwater. Do you need pressure information, multi-gas decompression, a new unit, or a used original model? Condition, included accessories, and listed price can settle the choice. The shortest path is to identify the must-have function first, then decide which trade-off you can live with.
Quick take
The cleanest way to narrow the field is to separate required functions from purchase condition. Suunto Eon Core and Shearwater Teric are the function-led choices; Suunto D5 emphasizes a new, unused-in-box unit; Shearwater Perdix is a used original model with described wear. The listed-price comparison below shows how much each route costs without treating price as a performance ranking.
Listed-price comparison
The absolute spread from Suunto D5 to Shearwater Teric is $294.99. That difference helps frame the choice, but it does not establish which computer is technically better.
| Dive computer | Listed price | Price bar |
|---|---|---|
| Shearwater Perdix Wrist Dive Computer | USD 500.00 | |
| Shearwater Teric Dive Computer Black 55mm | USD 624.99 | |
| Suunto Eon Core Wrist Dive Computer | USD 450.00 | |
| Suunto D5 All Black Dive Computer | USD 330.00 |
Decision matrix
- Tank pressure and compass: Suunto Eon Core, which includes a transmitter and USB and is described with wireless tank pressure and a digital compass.
- Multi-gas decompression: Shearwater Teric, whose package names multi-gas decompression and a 55mm black computer with a silicone band.
- Lowest listed price: Suunto D5 at $330, paired with new, unused-in-box condition, all-black styling, and wireless connectivity.
- Original Perdix format without air integration: Shearwater Perdix, identified as the original Gen 1 model with that specific setup.
Product notes
Shearwater Perdix Wrist Dive Computer
The Shearwater Perdix suits someone seeking the original Gen 1 wrist computer and accepting a used unit without air integration. It has 54 dives, second ownership, and backup use for tech diving. Its concrete limitation is wear: the housing is scratched, the screen protector is scratched, and the buckles have only one arm on the male end. The computer is included, with blue bungees offered for creating straps. Choose Perdix for its original model identity and stated no-air-integration role; choose Suunto D5 or Suunto Eon Core if the buckle condition is unacceptable.
Shearwater Teric Dive Computer
The Teric suits shoppers who want a 55mm black computer with a defined accessory bundle. It comes with a genuine charger, case, documents, carabiner, and M/L band; it is also described with a silicone band and Android compatibility. The limitation is its used condition, and the included set is limited to named items, with power cables called out as an example of an accessory not included. Choose Teric for that specified package and Android compatibility; Suunto D5 or Suunto Eon Core may suit shoppers who want a different condition or accessory setup.
Suunto Eon Core Wrist Dive Computer
Suunto Eon Core is the clearest fit for readability and connected dive information. It has a color display with large digits, a rechargeable battery, customizable settings, and wireless mobile connection; the title also includes a transmitter and USB. The limitation is its used condition, and the white finish may not suit someone seeking an all-black computer. Choose Eon Core when large-digit readability, rechargeable use, and the included USB matter together; its transmitter makes the package distinct from the other choices.
Suunto D5 All Black Dive Computer
Suunto D5 is the route to a new, unused-in-box computer at the lowest listed price. Its title identifies an all-black model with wireless connectivity, and it combines that connectivity with tracking underwater movements and key metrics. A practical limitation for feature-led shoppers is that its named feature emphasis differs from Eon Core's transmitter-and-tank-pressure package and Teric's multi-gas function. Choose D5 for new condition, all-black styling, and wireless connectivity; choose Suunto Eon Core or Shearwater Teric when their named functions are essential.
Final recommendation by use case
- Pressure-focused diving: choose Suunto Eon Core, because the transmitter, wireless tank pressure, and digital compass appear together in its feature description.
- Multi-gas decompression: choose Shearwater Teric, because that function is named directly.
- New, unused-in-box purchase: choose Suunto D5, whose all-black wireless model keeps the decision centered on condition and connectivity.
- Original Perdix without air integration: choose Shearwater Perdix, provided its used condition and housing and buckle wear fit your setup.
If no function is non-negotiable, use the table as the tie-breaker: Suunto D5 is at the low end, Shearwater Teric at the high end, with Suunto Eon Core and Shearwater Perdix between them. The price difference is useful for choosing, but it does not establish which computer is technically better.
