Quick take
Choosing disc golf drivers usually comes down to one question: do you need a fairway driver for controlled lines, or a distance driver built around longer throws? The Axiom Rhythm models are the fairway-driver choices, with descriptions that specifically cover first-driver use and line shaping. The Axiom Vanish and Discraft Nuke SS are distance drivers with understable flight language, but their listed speed and fade numbers differ. For a first driver or fairway line shaper, start with a Rhythm. For understable distance, compare the Vanish with the lower-priced Nuke SS according to the throw profile you want.

Decision matrix
- Fairway-driver role: Axiom FISSION RHYTHM and Axiom PROTON RHYTHM.
- Distance-driver role: Axiom FISSION VANISH and Discraft Z NUKE SS.
- First-driver or line-shaping language: Both Rhythm descriptions call out those uses, with the Proton version also described as laser straight for lower-power players.
- Understable distance language: The Vanish is described as straight to understable depending on thrower and wind, while the Nuke SS is described as an understable straight-flying version designed to be easier to turn for lower arm speeds.
- Listed flight numbers: The Rhythms are speed 7, glide 5.5, turn -2, fade 1. The Vanish is speed 11, glide 5, turn -3, fade 2. The Nuke SS is speed 13, glide 5, turn -3, fade 3.
- Plastic choices: Fission appears on the FISSION RHYTHM and FISSION VANISH, Proton on the PROTON RHYTHM, and Z on the NUKE SS.
Product notes
Axiom FISSION RHYTHM
The Axiom FISSION RHYTHM is a fairway driver with listed flight numbers of speed 7, glide 5.5, turn -2, and fade 1. Its description positions it as a first driver for newer players and a line-shaping fairway driver for power arms, giving it a clearly defined use case. Fission is the listed plastic. Choose it when a fairway-driver role and the Fission designation match your bag, especially for learning driver lines or shaping them with more power. Its limitation is the listed fairway-driver category: shoppers specifically seeking a distance driver should look at the Vanish or Nuke SS instead. The listed price is USD 21.95.
Axiom PROTON RHYTHM
The Axiom PROTON RHYTHM keeps the Rhythm's listed speed 7, glide 5.5, turn -2, and fade 1 profile while using Proton plastic. Its description calls it a first driver, a line-shaping fairway driver, and a laser-straight choice with a slight finish for lower-power players. That makes it a sensible pick when fairway control and the Proton designation are the priorities. At USD 17.45, it is the lower-priced Rhythm in this comparison. The trade-off is its fairway-driver role and speed 7 profile, which do not match a shopper specifically looking for the distance-driver categories represented by the Vanish and Nuke SS.
Axiom FISSION VANISH
The Axiom FISSION VANISH is a distance driver described as understable, with flight numbers of speed 11, glide 5, turn -3, and fade 2. Its stated flight language is straight to understable depending on the thrower and wind conditions, with controllably understable lines at higher power or in mild headwinds. Fission is the listed plastic. Choose it for an understable distance-driver brief when that speed 11 profile and wind-dependent flight description fit the throw you want to shape. A concrete limitation is its listed price of USD 21.95, which matches the highest price in this comparison. It is also a distance driver rather than a fairway driver.
Discraft Z NUKE SS
The Discraft Z NUKE SS is a distance driver with speed 13, glide 5, turn -3, and fade 3. The description calls it an understable, straight-flying version of the max-speed Nuke and says it is designed to be easier to turn for lower arm speeds. Z is the listed plastic, and the stated weight range is 160 to 174. Choose it when you want that speed 13 distance-driver profile or the specific lower-arm-speed use case. Its limitation is that it is built around a distance-driver role rather than the fairway-driver positioning of either Rhythm, so it is less aligned with a first fairway driver or line-shaping-only brief. The listed price is USD 14.95.
Final recommendation by use case
- For a first driver: Choose the Axiom PROTON RHYTHM for its explicit first-driver positioning and lower-power, laser-straight description.
- For fairway line shaping: Choose either Rhythm. The PROTON RHYTHM emphasizes Proton plastic, while the FISSION RHYTHM emphasizes Fission plastic; both carry the Rhythm's listed flight numbers.
- For understable distance with a speed 11 profile: Choose the Axiom FISSION VANISH, whose description directly addresses straight-to-understable flight and changing thrower or wind conditions.
- For lower-arm-speed distance throws: Choose the Discraft Z NUKE SS, whose description specifically names that use and pairs it with a speed 13 distance-driver profile.
